Tactical Guides

The tactical guides apply Adaptable Organizations to specific organizational situations. They are for readers who are not asking "what is the framework?" first, but "where is drift showing up here, and what do we do about it?"

What These Guides Help You Do

Use these guides when the problem is already visible. They are built to help you diagnose the pattern, understand where drift is moving, and decide where return work needs to begin.

How to Choose a Starting Point

  • Start with Leadership if the problem seems to concentrate around example-setting, trust, accountability, or decision-making under pressure.
  • Start with Scaling if growth is making alignment harder to maintain.
  • Start with Culture Drift if stated values and actual behavior are separating.
  • Start with Remote Teams if distance is increasing ambiguity, delay, or coordination loss.
  • Start with Hiring if you are trying to make return capacity part of who gets into the system.
  • Start with Post-Merger Integration if two systems are trying to function as one before shared coherence exists.

How These Guides Work

Each guide addresses a situation where organizational drift is especially likely or especially costly. They are not step-by-step programs.

They use the framework's diagnostic structure to identify which channels drift is most likely to move through in that context, what the return loop typically looks like there, and where friction tends to be highest.

If you have not read the Core Concepts yet, start there first. The tactical guides assume familiarity with the basic vocabulary.

Available Guides

Leadership How return capacity in individual leaders propagates through the organization, and what it looks like when it is absent.

Scaling Why growth is a high-drift condition and how to maintain organizational coherence during rapid expansion.

Culture Drift How to diagnose cultural drift specifically, and what return in the cultural channel actually looks like.

Remote Teams The specific ways distributed work increases drift risk and how to build return capacity in teams without physical proximity.

Hiring How to identify return capacity in candidates and why it matters for organizational coherence.

Post-Merger Integration Why mergers and acquisitions are high-drift events and how to build return capacity across newly joined organizations.
